Helium makes balloons float, sure—but what if you don't have any? Whether it's sold out, too expensive, or you're just looking for a different way to decorate, you’ve got options. At SG Balloons, we’ve seen all kinds of clever workarounds, and we’re sharing our favorite helium-free balloon hacks to keep your party looking festive.

1. Use Balloon Sticks or Stands

The easiest alternative? Balloon sticks. These are plastic rods with a cup at the top that holds the balloon upright. They’re perfect for table arrangements, party favors, or kids' events. You can also go for balloon stands—multi-tiered holders that turn your balloons into centerpieces.

Best for: Birthdays, baby showers, small spaces.

2. Tape Balloons to Walls or Ceilings

Double-sided tape or glue dots can go a long way. Want a “floating” look? Stick balloons upside down on the ceiling. You can also create balloon walls, garlands, or photo backdrops with tape and a little planning.

Pro tip: Use clear tape and match the balloon colors to your theme.

3. Create a Balloon Arch or Garland

Balloon arches don’t float, but they make a big impact. Use fishing line or balloon tape (a plastic strip with holes) to tie the balloons together, then mount it to a wall, frame, or stand. Add greenery, ribbons, or LED lights to take it up a notch.

Best for: Weddings, corporate events, big celebrations.

4. Use a Fan for Floating Effects

Want moving balloons without helium? Use a small fan under lightweight balloons or place them above a vent. This trick works well with tissue paper tassels or streamers attached, giving a floating illusion with movement.

Fun idea: Try it for a dance floor effect or photo booth background.

5. Suspend Balloons with String

Tie balloons to the ceiling using clear fishing line. When guests walk in, it’ll look like they’re floating in midair. This method is affordable and works great indoors.

Best for: Illusion of floating, low-budget parties.

You don’t need helium to make a statement. With a little creativity (and some tape or string), your balloons can still float, fly, or wow the crowd. At SG Balloons, we love helping people pull off fun, stylish setups—helium or not.
